Online EACD NL event | How to Respond to Fake News?

Tuesday 24 May
10:30 – 12:00 CET Online

If you don’t read the news, you’re uninformed. If you do read the news, you’re misinformed.”

Companies and main stream media alike are facing a new challenge: how to stay truthful and trustworthy in an era of information overload, artificial content creation and fake news? The need to be first and to be sensational, has seemingly overshadowed the need for information to be true, with potentially disastrous consequences for governments, organizations and audiences worldwide.

As communication professionals, we have always known, the content, the quality and the authenticity of communication affects the value of an organization, both from a reputational and financial perspective. Fictitious articles and fabricated news campaigns not only negatively impact a company’s reputation, but also their financial stability. All organizations, especially publicly listed companies, are increasingly exposed and confronted with the rising threat of fake news. But, how to handle fake news when your organization was casted as the lead role?

During this EACD NL event on 24 May 2022, Raphaël Labbé, Founder of Wiztrust, will showcase real examples and how they impacted organizations and, most importantly, what communication professionals can and should do to respond to fake news, and continue to manage their communication to build trust in an era of distrust. The examples will explore the danger of the technology, but also show us their hidden value to spark a discussion.
