Join the EACD for our anniversary event, where senior communicators and business leaders come together to discuss a key issue impacting the profession. This year, the discussion will focus on corporate activism in an age of radical uncertainty.

The lack of strong leadership has never been more apparent than in today’s volatile world: the challenges of globalisation, technological change, immigration issues, and the rise of populism all demand clear reactions and responsibility.  There is a marked loss of trust in institutions and business, most notably this year in the Facebook data privacy scandal.

Organisations are increasingly expected to take a stance and promote their values outside of the immediate operating environment. Should an organisation actively become involved in social and political issues, and how should communicators enable this dialogue?

The discussion at the EACD Forum 2018 will examine qualitative and quantitative research from Phil Riggins of the Brand & Reputation Collective and leading examples of purpose-driven organisations. A diverse panel of leading communicators will discuss shared responsibility and the impact of corporate activism in a rapidly changing world.

As Director of Communications, Public Affairs and Engagement at the OECD, Anthony Gooch Gálvez is responsible for shaping the OECD’s global strategic communications effort covering media, public affairs and publishing operations. This includes orchestrating the OECD’s public expression of its role as the international organisation working for a stronger, cleaner and fairer world economy through all policy areas. Prior to joining the OECD, Mr Gooch Gálvez spent 13 years with the European Commission, serving as the EU’s Trade Spokesman and Special Adviser to the EU’s Chief Trade Negotiator, Pascal Lamy.

Meet the speakers

Phil Riggins, Founder at the Brand & Reputation Collective
Phil founded the Brand & Reputation Collective (the BRC) because, after more than 25 years helping understand and manage some of the world’s most well-known and complicated brands, he realised the way we are doing things won’t work anymore. Prior to creating the BRC, Phil worked at senior levels with the world’s leading communications agencies, including the Brunswick Group, Weber Shandwick, APCO Worldwide, and Leidar, advising clients on reputation, brand and issues management. Phil started his career at the United States Information Agency, now part of the US Department of State, where he helped policy makers understand and manage one of the world’s most complicated brands – the United States of America.

Elisa Niemtzow, Managing Director at Business for Social Responsibility (BSR).
Elisa leads BSR’s consumer sectors practice globally. She works with companies in the luxury, beauty, fashion, hospitality, retail, and food industries to better integrate sustainability into core business strategy, products, and operations. She helps companies use business assets to solve society’s global challenges, evolve brand strategy to integrate changing consumer expectations, and better partner with stakeholders to create more resilient and inclusive business practices. Elisa also leads BSR’s Responsible Luxury Initiative. Prior to joining BSR, Elisa was an account manager at Chanel and a consultant at Accenture and Ernst & Young.

Celine Schillinger, Founder and CEO, We Need Social
An Engagement Leadership thinker and practitioner, Celine Schillinger has been recognized multiple times for her innovative engagement initiatives in the corporate world. After a long career in small and large organizations across several continents, Celine set up We Need Social, an Engagement Leadership consultancy. She helps organizations evolve their leadership in order to engage their internal and external stakeholders. Celine is an Affiliate for Kotter, a US strategy execution and leadership consultancy founded by Dr John Kotter. Celine was awarded the Medal of the National Order of Merit by the French government in 2017 for her efforts for diversity in the workplace.
